Specimen collection procedures

Urine specimen collection sites, personnel, forms, equipment, and procedures including directly observed collections and shy-bladder protocols.

An employee reports for a random urine drug test wearing a parka and a baseball cap. He presents a faxed copy of his commercial driver's license and explains he left his physical ID at home. When instructed to remove his outer clothing and empty his pockets, the employee produces a wallet and asks to keep it during the collection. What is the most appropriate action for the collector?

A.Contact the DER to verify the employee's identity and allow him to keep the wallet during the collection after he has displayed the contents of his pockets to the collector.
B.Accept the faxed identification as it is a government-produced document, but require the employee to leave his wallet with the collector during the void.
C.Contact the DER to verify the employee's identity, but inform him that the wallet must be secured with his parka and hat to prevent the introduction of synthetic urine.
D.Refuse to proceed with the collection until a physical photo ID is provided, and allow the employee to keep his parka on if he agrees to a thorough pocket search.
